TIS’ THE SEASON TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE ISSUES!

Now that everyone is back in Palm Beach and the holidays are behind us, it is time to look at the issues that currently face our Town. Since there was no election, your NAPB Board thought you might like to have a brief update on the most urgent issues being discussed in Town Hall. This is meant to be a brief summary of the most important topics to date inclusive of NAPB’s position on the topics.

POLICE AND FIRE RESCUE PENSIONS – It is imperative that the Town addresses the growing financial liability of the existing pension plans. Town Manager, Peter Elwell, has recommended a plan that would reduce the pension costs and go a long way in restoring our financial stability in the years to come. If his plan is not implemented and we continue with the current pension plans, our Town will be operating at a deficit as early as NEXT YEAR! Regardless of the communications being printed by the Police and Fire unions, we urge our residents to support Elwell’s plan to reduce these rich pension plans so that Palm Beach does NOT end up on the list of communities nationwide that are operating under huge pension driven deficits.

TAXES – The Budget season for the Town will start earlier this year in order to facilitate more time and resident input rather than having most of the discussions taking place during the summer when most residents are gone. We hope that many of our NAPB members and residents will take notice of the meetings and attend or give input to the budget process. NOW is the time to implement changes…
